Seeing Beyond Duty

Maybe we are built like that path.

Early on we are handed a direction and a list of things to carry, and we call the carrying duty and the direction life. Walk the path long enough and it starts to look like the whole forest. Nobody tells you the light is behind you and above you, or that to see it you need only do the one thing the path never asks for: stop, and lift your head.

It costs a second. It can feel like disobedience. But since when did noticing become a revolutionary act?

There is a small hut at the left edge, off the path. Someone once decided the walking was not the whole of it, and left a roof behind as proof. So look up. Then keep walking. The path will still be there. Now you know what is lighting it.
